March 2012

The Chamber Singers of the Colorado Springs Chorale is the Chorale's newest singing group, currently in their second season.  Throughout its fifty-six years as Colorado Springs’ premier adult symphonic chorus, the Chorale has been committed to bringing the highest quality of music to Colorado Springs.  The Chamber Singers, comprised of 21 auditioned singers from within the larger Chorale membership, serves to represent the Chorale in venues and at events where a larger chorus would be impracticable. The group was created to function as an educational and community outreach, to encourage young people to pursue singing beyond high school and college, and to recruit singers for the Chorale.

The Chamber Singers perform choral literature from across the centuries. Their current repertoire includes works by Barnett, Bardos, Britt, Handel, Monteverdi, Raminsh, and Stanford.  The Chamber Singers hosted the first annual Messiah sing-along at First Christian Church during the Advent season.  Spring concerts include Carmina Burana at the Pikes Peak Center with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony and other local choral groups, and A World Beloved:  A Bluegrass Mass performed with Jake Schepps and the Expedition Quartet at the Meadowgrass Music Festival.  The season concludes with Wonderful World, a friends and family concert at First Christian Church which will again include the Bluegrass Mass and Expedition Quartet, as well as other fantastic choral pieces centering around our wonderful, beautiful world.

Through annual touring days at local high schools, the Chamber Singers encourage students’ further development and future interest in choral singing. During these visits, invitations are extended to recommended “singer-apprentices” to perform with Chorale for one concert season. Schools have included Rampart, Wasson, Mitchell, Liberty, and Cheyenne Mountain.  This year’s student opportunities include two performances of Mahler's Second Symphony with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and an appearance with the Air Force Academy Concert Band. The Chamber Singers’ have performed with the Cherry Creek Children’s Chorus in Denver, at the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, and at Studio Bee in the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs as a part of the Showcase at Studio Bee concert series.

The Chamber Singers perform under the direction of Kimberley Schultz, a protégé of the Chorale’s maestro, Don Jenkins.  Kimberley is currently the Director of Music at First Christian Church in Colorado Springs.  She holds a Masters of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver, and a BA in Music from Duke University. Ms. Schultz has taught secondary choral music for seven years and served as the graduate teaching assistant for choirs at the Lamont School of Music.  Most recently, she served as the Artist in Residence at the Colorado Springs School for the Global Voices choral program.  She was selected as a conductor for the National Conductor’s Symposium in Vancouver, BC in May 2010. She serves as an adjudicator for local choral festivals, and also teaches piano and voice lessons.
