The Colorado Springs Chorale proudly announces the performance of its very special and unique concert, Choral Gold II, at the Pikes Peak Center, 8:00 P.M., Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Choral Gold II will include the very best and most popular choral favorites from choral literature, the cathedral, opera, and Broadway, and will feature a large orchestra.

The Chorale will open with its now traditional “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah, present Faure’s “In Paradisum,” and “The Witches’ Chorus” from Mendelssohn’s Walpurgis Night among other representatives of the oratorio and mass. Well known selections from opera include Verdi’s “Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves” from Nabucco and “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore, the “Coronation Scene” from Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, and Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances” from Prince Igor. A shift to Broadway yields Frank Loesser’s “Big D” from Most Happy Fella, and “Luck be a Lady Tonight” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat” from Guys and Dolls. Topping Broadway’s “bests” will be “Make Our Garden Grow” from Bernstein’s Candide. The performance finale will include everyone’s favorite, “O Fortuna” from Orff’s Carmina Burana.
According to Chorale Artistic Director and Conductor Donald P. Jenkins, “Our audiences have consistently asked for Great Works concerts that feature great choral and orchestral music. We therefore have made a commitment to produce a Great Works concert in 2010 that answers our supporters’ expectations. We have decided to present Choral Gold II, which we see as a worthy successor to the Chorale’s triumphant Choral Gold 50th Anniversary production of three years ago. The previous Choral Gold concert was greeted with critical and audience acclaim and it also generated record-setting attendance. Like the original Choral Gold, Choral Gold II will feature excerpts from many well known works for chorus and orchestra; it will offer familiar and beautiful selections that only sound "right" when performed by the Chorale and a large, accomplished orchestra. We think it will have something for everyone, and that it will attract enthusiastic interest.”
Tickets may be obtained through the Pikes Peak Center Box Office; TicketsWest, 719 520 7469; or any TicketsWest outlet. Prices range from $16 to $49, with group, and senior, military, student, and children’s discounts available. “It Takes Five” student discounts honored.
