"CHORAL GOLD”

Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Colorado Springs Chorale
Saturday, March 24, 2007 8:00 PM at the
Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts

The Chorale, with full orchestra, under the direction of Donald P. Jenkins, celebrates its 50th Anniversary with an evening of great favorites selected from a “golden literature”, the most passionate, thrilling and satisfying choral works we know. We present grand, epic and surprisingly personal choral masterpieces in all their magnificence. The concert includes the incomparable Hallelujah Chorus and Ave Verum; pieces from Elijah and Brahms’ Requiem; thrilling opera choruses including the dramatic triumphal scene from Aida; excerpts from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess; a moving African-American spiritual; and concludes with two brilliant choruses from Carmina Burana.

CHORAL SCHOLARS

Scholars will be high school students nominated by their Choral Directors or Music Teachers by letter or email by December 15, 2006. To maximize the hands-on experience of the participants, the program will be offered only to a limited number of scholars. The Colorado Springs Chorale selection committee will notify those selected by January 5, 2007. The Choral Scholar experience will include one ninety-minute SEMINAR with Mr. Jenkins, plus attendance at selected Chorale

REHEARSALS and PERFORMANCE.

The seminar class will meet at the Colorado Springs Conservatory at 1430 N. Hancock Ave. on January 27th, 2007 from 10:00-11:30am. It will center upon the music of Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Gershwin and Orff, and will offer commentary upon the history of the choral arts.

Additionally, Choral Scholars will attend the following events:

Attend and sing at any two Chorale REHEARSALS on Wednesday nights of the three weeks preceding the performance, from 7:15 pm to 9:45 pm at the First Christian Church, which is located at 16 E. Platte Avenue in Colorado Springs.
Attend the DRESS REHEARSAL (to observe, not sing) at Pikes Peak Center on March 23 (?) from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
Attend the PERFORMANCE at Pikes Peak Center on March 24 to receive a scholar certificate and enjoy the performance. The Scholar will receive one voucher guaranteeing complimentary admission to the Dress Rehearsal and Performance.
Commentary by Mr. Jenkins will be addressed to the Choral Scholars at every rehearsal except at the Dress Rehearsal. Scholars will be recognized to the audience and will be awarded Choral Scholar Certificates at the performance. Extra Credit is available as approved by the high school directors or teachers. Students are responsible for confirming those arrangements with the appropriate faculty member.

Total tuition for the program is $35.00. All tuition income will be assigned to the Colorado Springs Choral Society’s Great Works Fund, administered by the Pikes Peak Community Foundation.
