Normandy 2022

The Chorale was honored to be invited to participate in Historic Programs' annual D-Day commemoration ceremonies in France in 2020. The trip was postponed due to the pandemic, then postponed again in 2021 due to France's remaining limitations on large gatherings.

Finally, in 2022, the Chorale made the trip, participating in the liberation celebrations in Sainte-Mère-Église, including a lovely concert in the Sainte-Mère-Église church (pictured below), the Musical Salute to the Veterans, and the D-Day Memorial Parade. The Chorale also participated in commemoration ceremonies at the Brittany American Cemetery and Normandy American Cemetery, where volunteers from the Chorale placed USA and Colorado flags on the graves of the Colorado soldiers buried there.

In Paris, the Chorale enjoyed some sightseeing, then sang a concert in the incredible Madeleine church with Rise Up Children's Choir.

Below are some video overviews of our amazing experience, plus a full list of Colorado's D-Day heroes, whom the Chorale were privileged to honor with music.

*Special thanks to Dick and Sandy Hilt for supporting commissioned works by Shawn Kirchner for the Chorale to perform in Normandy.*
