AUDITION FOR BRITTEN'S WAR REQUIEM

Join the Colorado Springs Chorale and the CS Philharmonic for Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem in May 2020! We are offering the opportunity to participate in these epic performances to singers who aren’t regular members of the Chorale.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION

Pass an abbreviated audition.
Attend all Wed rehearsals that include work on the Britten (schedule below)
Purchase your own copy of the Britten choral score, available from Chorale
No membership dues required.

PERFORMANCES

Sat & Sun, May 16 & 17, 2020
Rehearsals with the orchestra Tue-Fri, May 12-15
Regular Wed night rehearsals 7:15-9:45 with the Chorale, mid-January through May (schedule below.)

AUDITION INFORMATION

Dates: Wed & Thu, Jan 8 & 9, 2020 by appointment (Please note, January 8th schedule is now full.)

A prepared solo selection will NOT be required.
Some vocalizing and other exercises to determine range, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, and overall level of musicianship.
There will not be a vocal warm-up as part of the audition. Come in ready to sing.

1) Sing “My country ‘tis of thee,” perhaps in a couple of different keys. (Just the melody, no harmony parts, with accompaniment.)

2) Pitch recall- patterns of notes will be played on the piano. You will sing them back.

3) Sight read a short piece, written in standard choral notation, with SATB parts each laid out on a separate staff. You will read your own voice part. It will be accompanied.

Auditions are in the First Christian Church building.
